Exchange had sought clarification from Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited with respect to a news item captioned "HPCL to resume full operation in Vizag in 3 months". The Company has clarified that "HPCL Vizag Refinery has become fully functional by 24th-26th October with about 90% throughput. The repair works on cooling Tower cells which were damaged during cyclone are addressed on war footing basis in a sequence of temporary first followed by permanent repairs. The temporary works on tower cells enabled cooling water utility restoration to the minimum required there by maximizing primary unit throughputs. With the part restoration of cooling towers by temporary repairs, though all refinery units are fully functional & the refinery Primary units throughput can be restored to 100%, but the limitation of Cooling towers vis-a-vis limitation in secondary & treating units by about 5 to 10% is limiting utilization of corresponding 100% crude processing capacity. The repairs works on cooling towers on permanent basis would be completed by early December 2014 and thereafter Visakh refinery will be targeting 100% crude processing on sustainable basis.5 Nov · Board meeting
