About BSE India Sector Leaders index funds and ETFs
BSE India Sector Leaders index funds and ETFs are funds that copy the BSE India Sector Leaders index, which picks up to three of the largest companies in each sector of the BSE 500, so their return follows the index less costs.
The index they track
BSE India Sector Leaders was launched on 10 Jan 2025, with a base date of 20 Jun 2005, and is maintained by BSE Index Services. It draws on the BSE 500 and ranks stocks within each sector by their average daily total market capitalization over the prior six months. At most 3 companies per sector are selected. A current member stays at review while it remains in the top 5 of its sector.
Weights and reviews
Weights follow float-adjusted market capitalization (company size counted only on the shares available for trading), with a floor of 1% and a ceiling of 5% on any one stock. The caps are reapplied each quarter, in Mar, Jun, Sep and Dec. Membership is reviewed twice a year, in Jun and Dec. The rules fix no total number of companies.
Funds on this page
This page lists the index funds and ETFs that track this index, with a Direct plan and Regular plan view. Where a fund has no one-year tracking difference, the page shows its tracking error alone and lists it after the others.
Tracking difference and tracking error
Tracking difference is the fund's one-year return less the index's return, usually below zero because of costs. The after fee figure adds the year's average expense ratio back, which leaves the gap caused by other things. Tracking error is how much the fund's daily returns differed from the index's, on a yearly scale. Funds are ordered nearest the index first, then by expense ratio.
Expense ratio and fund size
The expense ratio is the fund's yearly charge as a share of the money invested. It is deducted from NAV (net asset value, the value of one unit) daily, so returns are already net of it. Fund size is assets under management across all plans at month-end.
