About Nifty Total Market index funds and ETFs

Nifty Total Market index funds and ETFs are funds that hold the companies of the Nifty Total Market in the index's own weights, so their return follows one index that spans large, mid, small and microcap companies, less costs.

The index they track

The Nifty Total Market holds every company in the Nifty 500 and every company in the Nifty Microcap 250, which is the next 250 companies beyond the Nifty 500 by average full market capitalization (total share value, before holdings that do not trade are taken out). It held 755 constituents at 30 Sep 2026. NSE Indices launched it on 13 Oct 2021, with a base date of 1 Apr 2005 and a base value of 1,000.

How the index is weighted

Each stock is weighted by free-float market capitalization: the value of the shares normally available for trading. The index is reconstituted twice a year, effective from the last trading day of Mar and Sep, in step with the Nifty 500 and the Nifty Microcap 250.

Tracking a wide index

Tracking difference is the fund's one-year return less the index's return, which costs usually push below zero. The after fee figure adds the year's average expense ratio back. Tracking error is the yearly spread of the daily differences.

Expense ratio and fund size

The expense ratio is the yearly charge as a share of assets, deducted from NAV (net asset value, the value of one unit) each day, so the returns shown are already net of it. The table switches between the direct plan, bought straight from the fund house, and the regular plan, which pays a distributor and costs more.

How the list is ordered

The page lists the index funds that track this index. Funds with the tracking difference nearest zero come first, then the lower expense ratio. The period is the year to the month-end. A fund with no one-year tracking difference shows a dash for it and for after fee.
